I LOVE ART! That’s probably the best place to start with who I am. It’s always been a part of my life and something I cherish deeply. I attended the University of Mississippi on a full art scholarship, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a sculpture emphasis. I was Art Student of the Year my senior year and had the privilege of showing my senior thesis, "A World Within Our Minds," in the University’s art gallery.
After college I taught Pre-K and Kindergarten and truly fell in love with the kids. Their creativity, imagination and uncompromised exploration ignited my artistic fire! I began working on a Masters in Education at the University of Memphis, and subsequently worked at a production ceramics studio working exclusively with clay. My gift lies in the sculptural realm, as I’m able to mold and shape the clay beyond just a utilitarian bowl or cup. One day while experimenting with the medium, I had a voila moment – “I love ceramics, I love kids, why not combine those two loves?!?!” That one epiphany started me on a life-long journey that brings so much joy to me and my students with every pottery class I teach.
Kids have no reservations when making pottery, and their pieces are always masterpiece artworks to Mom and Dad, on full display in the home gallery. To see the excitement and awe in their faces when the final piece is unveiled is truly magical. Every class is different as is every art student, and it’s my goal to unleash that creativity! My mantra is “Ceramics is Fun!” and that’s something I strive for with each and every student.
